Event Description:
“Unbridled Brilliance”

Violinist Julieta Mihai and cellist Moises Molina join us to open the Symphony’s 65th season.

They will play the Brahms Double Concerto with the orchestra. Both soloists are on faculty at Western Illinois University.

And, speaking of guests, the string orchestra students of Sterling High School will sit in side-by-side with the Symphony’s musicians to perform two of Brahms’ famous Hungarian Dances.

To round out an evening of Brahms, conductor Brian Dollinger has chosen the composer’s Second Symphony. It took Brahms many years to find the courage to write a symphony in the shadow of Beethoven’s monumental works in that form, but once he found success with hs first endeavor, the second followed shortly. It is one of Brahms’ most cheerful works, composed during his 1877 summer holiday on the shores of a beautiful Austrian lake.

Hear it live, in full-spectrum sound!
