Current Information and History of Tim Daniels & Connie Roling

 Tim’s Story:

Tim is a 49-year-old who has been sick since the fall of 2016.  After many visits to the doctor, he was referred to the University of Iowa. He was diagnosed with a rare disease called amyloidosis in February of 2017.  Amyloidosis occurs when abnormal proteins called amyloids, are produced in your bone marrow.  The amyloids cannot be processed in the bloodstream so they build up and are deposited in the body’s tissues and organs.  There are different types of amyloidosis and Tim has been diagnosed with the rarest form, AL amyloidosis.  Tim’s kidney function and intestines have been affected by this disease.  There is no cure for amyloidosis but treatment can help manage the symptoms and limit the production of more amyloid proteins in the body.

Amyloidosis is not cancer; however, the treatment is basically the same.  Tim had his stem cells harvested on March 14, 2017.  He checked into the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics to begin treatment on April 3, 2017.  Treatment consists of one of the most aggressive forms of chemotherapy, followed by a re-implantation of harvested stem cells.  Tim will then need at least a year, if not two years, of maintenance chemotherapy.

His condition at this point is stable; however, his kidney functions are decreasing and he is losing weight.  Currently the maintenance chemotherapy is rough on him.

Unfortunately, Tim is unable to work during treatment.  He is employed at Clysar in Clinton but will be off work for at least a year if not more.  He is a single father of two children and the financial burden is almost too much to bear.  His medical bills, travel expenses, etc. are overwhelming as he has been off of work since the diagnosis was made in February.

Any and all help is deeply appreciated by Tim, his children and our entire family.  Thank you so very much for considering any fundraising on his behalf.

Connie’s Story:

It was June of 2014 when Connie was diagnosed with Stage 3 Colon Cancer. 12 chemotherapy treatments later the cancer was gone. A CT scan in January 2017 showed 3 tumors on her right lung. After a biopsy of the tumors she was told the colon cancer had metastasized into her lung. In February of 2017 stage 4 colon cancer brought on 12 more chemotherapy treatments; and August brings the start of a minimum of 3 months maintaintence treatments. Connie is the Mother of 2 children, Alesha (21) and Keaton (16) and has been married to Don for 2 years. They reside in Spragueville.  Connie works at Rockwell Collins in Bellevue, and will hopefully return to work in August after being off for 6 months. Don is a self-employed carpenter.

Family, friends, and co-workers have been a great asset to help Connie overcome this challenge. Connie and family cannot thank everyone enough for what they have done.
