Miller Program Features Native American History

Event Details

The year 2018 celebrates the bicentennial anniversary for the State of Illinois.  What better way to pay tribute to the state’s history than to start at its pre-history status.  Native Cherokee and Ojibwe, Dan Lybarger from Galesburg will share his knowledge of Native American history and culture.

Rev Lybarger has presented flute music and story-telling programs throughout the Midwest.  He has been a previous guest at Heritage Canyon to play his Native American flute.  Now we will give him an opportunity to tell of his cultural background.  He holds great interest in the preservation of Native American languages, history, and culture.  Dan has been honored by the return to Pimiteoui Pow Wow Committee of Peoria, IL for his contribution to the Native American community with the Peoria Falcon Award.  Rev Lybarger has spoken at several museums in Oklahoma City, Prairie du Chen, WI, and Genoa Nebraska; plus public schools and colleges.  Dan has developed language and cultural teaching methods for whose who have been away from their tribal homes and wish to recover a sense of their language and culture.  Rev Lybarger’s topic for his presentation/performance starting at 6:00pm on Thursday, February 22 at the Windmill Cultural Center tourism event will be entitled “Preparing for the Future by Touching the Past”.
