The Gone Fishin’ will be performing at an ice cream social on June 24, 2018 at 2:00pm in the courtyard in downtown Mt. Carroll.   Several musicians from First Lutheran will open the program performing a few of their own favorites.  The event is cosponsored by Thrivent Financial.

Gone Fishin’ began in 2006 as a husband and wife duo. They met Mary Berryhill in 2014. Terry O’Malley and Mary Hammer (Mary Jean) joined Gone Fishin’ in the fall of 2015.  “We actually met in the summer of 2014 at the Apple River Presbyterian Gospel Gathering.”  God had a plan and a little over a year later, we became a five piece band!  The group’s name was chosen from Matthew 4:19 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you Fishers of Men”. The band feels their mission is to “Go Fishin’” for men by singing for Jesus, hoping that through their music and testimony, people will see the love of Jesus and be encouraged.  Their music includes gospel, old-time, hymns, and traditional, all with a bluegrass flair.  They play not for profit but in order to share their love of praising God in song.

The musicians from First Lutheran have joined together just for this event and will add further variety to the program with a repertoire that includes both Christian and secular tunes.  Young and old alike will find the program very inspiring.

Plenty of homemade pies with cool, creamy ice cream will be available along with root beer floats. The proceeds will benefit the Caroline Mark Home.  This is one event you won’t want to miss!  Rain location: First Lutheran Sanctuary, 301 South Clay Street.  Questions, call the church office at 815.244.8044.
