Animal Cruelty Investigation Results In Charges

A Clinton County woman is charged with three counts of ‘Animal Neglect – Death or serious injury’ charges that are related to three dead dogs found at her home. ‘Read more’ for the details.’ 44 year Teresa Getting – who lived at 2704 275th Avenue, DeWitt is charged in Clinton County District Court. She rented the residence.

On May 5th the property owners reported to authorities they discovered three living dogs confined in a room insider their rental property and the dogs were emaciated. They also reported the dogs had no food or water. They also reported finding two dead dogs insider cages inside the residence
Officials obtained a search warrant for the property. Deputies from the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office were accompanied by a veterinarian on the search. During the search they noted the water to the home had been turned off. They confirmed the three dogs confined to a room inside the home. The veterinarian also reported the dogs to be emaciated.
Deputies discovered the two dead dogs inside cages in the home that were in what according the court affidavit were in advanced state of decomposition.

On May 6th the renter-Teresa Getting was interviewed. She told officers she did not have the money to care for the dogs for the past 6 to 8 weeks. She admitted she was aware she was not giving the dogs proper care, food and water. Getting also said she did not seek any assistance from outside sources to help with the care. She also told authorities about a third dead dog in the home.

Getting has been assigned a court appointed attorney in the case.
