Clinton County employees unearthed what is to believe to be a burial ground located at the site of the Clinton County Administration Building, 1900 North 3rd Street, Clinton, Iowa. ‘Read more’ for details on this story.The discovery was made while employees were prepping the ground for a new replacement wall and parking lot. A representative from the State of Iowa Archeological Society was present during the discovery. County officials are currently working with the State on options of how to handle the discovery.
“The State has assured us that Clinton County has done nothing wrong,” said Clinton County Board Chairman John Staszewski. “Clinton County will work closely with the State to treat the site appropriately.”
State and County officials are asking the public to stay away from the area.
