Local family loses home and belongings in fire

Local American Red Cross volunteers responded to a home fire on the 700 block of Locust Street in Clinton, Iowa Monday afternoon.. The team of Red Cross volunteers helped coordinate assistance in the form of food, shelter, clothing and emotional support due to fire damage to the home. The Red Cross is assisting 2 adults and 4 children who lost their home and belongings.

The Clinton Fire Department was at the Law Center performing a drill at the jail in conjunction with the Clinton County Sherriff’s Department when the units were dispatched to 711 Locust for a report of a house fire.

The Fire Department reported arriving to find a working house fire with heavy smoke.  After trying an offensive attack the department pulled back due to deteriorating conditions and battled the fire from the outside. There were eleven firefighters initially responding and 13 additional Clinton firefighters were called in and the Fulton Fire Department was also called to assist.

There were no injuries reported.

The home is likely to be considered a total loss.  The fire department also stated the home was insured.
