November was warmer and wetter than normal

November 2015 will be in the Clinton weather records as one of the warmest and wettest on record. ‘Read more’ for the details
Clinton area official weather observer Jim Blaess says the overall temperature of about 44 (44.2) degrees will make November 2015 the ninth warmest in records to 1879. That temperature is nearly five degrees above the November normal of about 39 (39.5) degrees.

Blaess says the warmest November is 2001 with the overall temperature of about 49 49.3) degrees.

Blaess says the precipitation for the November was 6.74 of an inch. That was the second most precipitation in a November since 1878. He says November 1934 with nearly eight (7.76) inches of precipitation is number one on the list.
The normal precipitation for November is just over two (2.12) inches.

Within the precipitation totals, Blaess says there some top 24 hour totals. He says on the 17 there was just over two inches (2.07) of precipitation which is the sixth most in a 24 hour period in November. On the 26th thru 27th there was 2.3 inches which was the fifth most in a 24 hour period.

There was also a snow event that is among the top for November. Blaess says on the 21st there was seven inches of snow and that tied for the third most in a 24 hour period in November. It tied with November 10th of 1898. The record is just over nine (9.3) inches of snow on November 14th thru 15th of 1997.

For the year to date, Blaess says there has been 44.58 inches of precipitation. He says that is over 12 inches above the normal of about 32.43 inches during the first eleven months of year.

Blaess adds that the September through November period is considered the meteorological fall. He says that 2015 will be the 7th wettest period since 1879. The precipitation totaled 15 inches which he says is double the normal over the three months.

The weather observer says it will be the fourth warmest fall period since 1879. The overall temperature was 12 degrees above the normal

In December, Blaess says you can expect a little less than two inches of precipitation including nearly nine inches of snow. He says there is an average of three days of zero or below temperatures.
Blaess says the average high on December first is 39 and the low is 24 and those averages drop to 30 and 15 by the end of the month.
