Measure to fill new Streets and Solid Waste Superintendent post falls short on votes-for now

While a majority of the Clinton City Council attended the special session it took four ‘yes’ votes from the four members attending.  With a 3-1 vote the action did not pass.

In a brief special meeting-the council approved a couple of business items.
One of those was to support a grant application for some building repairs for the Area Substance Abuse Council. No city money is needed for the projects.
>In a clarification-the council did not finalize the hiring of Creighton Regenwether as the as the new Streets and Solid Waste Superintendent.
There were four council members attending the special session. City Attorney Patrick O’Connell confirmed for KROS NEWS that while that’s a majority of the council-it still takes four votes to pass such an action item.
Council member Tom Determan, who sat through the interviews, conceded he was the top choice he was still going to oppose the hiring until the city had a policy about hiring retired city workers and voted no.
That made three votes in favor and under city rules the measure did not pass.
Regenwether recently retired from the Clinton Fire Department and head of the Building and Neighborhood Services Department.
