February was warmer than normal with less snow than usual

February was the 6th straight month with above normal temperatures.
Clinton area weather observer Jim Blaess says the overall temperature was just over 30 degrees (30.6) which he added is about four degrees above average (26.3).

The highest temperature during the month was 62 on the 28th. The lowest reading was one degree on February 13th.
There were no days with zero or below weather while Blaess says the average is 3 days.

Blaess says the precipitation for February was about half an inch (.55). The weather observer says that’s about an inch below the normal (1.63). The snowfall for the month was 3.4 inches which Blaess says is about four inches below the normal (7.6).

For the year-to-date precipitation, Blaess says the two month total is about one inch (1.08) and that’s two inches below normal (3.08).

For the snow season – October through February, Blaess says the snow total about 15 inches (14.9). He says that’s about 12 inches below the normal (27.4) for the period.

December-through-February is considered meteorological winter and Blaess says the overall temperature during the period was a just over 30 degrees (30.5). He says that’s about five degrees above the normal (25.1) for ‘winter.’
Blaess says that makes 2015-2016 meteorological winter the 8th warmest on record to the 1878-1879 winter.
During the period Blaess recorded three days with zero or below temperatures and the normal is eleven.

In the December through February period Blaess says there was just under 8 inches (7.7) of snow. That was the 4th least since the 1887-1888 winter. Following 4.6 inches in 1927-28; 4.1 inches of snow in the 1921-22 winter and 6.3 inches in 1898-99.
Blaess says December 2015 was the 3rd wettest December in the records while January 2016 was the 11th driest and February 2016 was the 18th driest to 1887.
