Absentee voting starts on bond issue for a new county law enforcement facility plus polling locations are set to vote in person

You can start voting absentee on Monday on the issue – ‘read more’ for details and polling locations to vote in person plus satellite voting plans announced.

Clinton County Auditor Eric Van Lancker has announced that absentee ballots for the May 3, 2016, Clinton County Special Election are available in the Clinton County Auditor’s Office starting Monday, April 11, 2016.

The May 3, 2016, Special Election ballot allows voters to decide on a public measure for a $22 million dollar bond referendum for a proposed jail/sheriff’s office/communication center/emergency management agency replacement facility. The ballot also includes two vacancies for the Clinton County Agricultural Extension Council.

Absentee ballots may be cast in the Clinton County Auditor’s Office at the Clinton County Administration Building, 1900 N. 3rd St., Clinton, IA, during regular office hours from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, through May 2, 2016.

Absentee ballots must be requested in writing. Request forms are available at the Auditor’s Office, on the Clinton County Web site at www.clintoncounty-ia.gov

Absentee ballots requested through the mail must be returned and postmarked by midnight, May 2, 2016. Absentee ballots may also be hand-delivered to the Auditor’s Office before 8 p.m. on May 3, 2016.

All requests for absentee ballots to be mailed must be received by the Auditor’s Office by 5 p.m., April 29, 2016.

If you do want to vote in person the locations and Hours for polling locations for the May 3, 2016, County Special Election to vote on a $22 million bond issue for a jail/law center replacement facility have been determined by the Clinton County Auditor and Commissioner of Elections Eric Van Lancker.

Van Lancker said some precincts have been combined for efficiency. He encourages voters to carefully review the polling location list before voting on May 3.

All polling locations listed below will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on May 3. Polling locations for May 3 include:

Bloomfield/Brookfield/Delmar: Grossman Hall, 309 N. Main St., Delmar

City of Camanche: Church of the Visitation, 1032 Middle Rd., Camanche

Center/Deep Creek/Goose Lake: Goose Lake City Hall, 1 School Lane, Goose Lake

Clinton:                 Clinton Ward 1: First United Methodist Church, 621 S. 3rd St., Clinton

Clinton Ward 2: Calvary Baptist Church, 1619 2nd Ave. S., Clinton

Clinton Ward 3: Ericksen Community Center, 1401 11th Ave. N., Clinton

Clinton Ward 4: Church of the Open Door, 816 13th Ave. N., Clinton

DeWitt Township/City of DeWitt: DeWitt Community Center, 512 10th St., DeWitt.

Eden/Camanche Township/Low Moor: Low Moor Community Center, 211 3rd Ave., Low Moor

Van Lancker added that absentee voting for the May 3 county-wide Special Election will be available. He said the absentee voting will be announced once ballots are available.

Satellite voting provides voters another location where they may vote absentee in person besides the County Auditor’s Office in Clinton.

Van Lancker has determined the satellite voting station will be located in the large conference room of the Clinton County Satellite Office at 226 11th St., DeWitt, IA. The satellite voting station will be open during the following times:

  • Wednesday, April 20, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Saturday, April 23, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Any Clinton County registered voter, or anyone eligible to register to vote in the County, may vote an absentee ballot at the satellite location. Ballots for all Clinton County voting precincts will be available to be voted at the satellite voting location.

Voter registration forms will also be available for new registrations as well as for those who are already registered, but may need to change an address or a name. The satellite location will also be available for voters to drop off voted absentee ballots.
