Attempted Murder Charge Filed Against Suspect In Local Incident

Charges have been filed against a Clinton man for attempted murder in a case a couple of weeks ago where he jumped off the Highway 30 Bridge and later a woman was found injured at a Clinton home.

The incidents happened on April 5th.

The case involved incidents at two locations with separate emergency calls.

The first incident was a call about a man jumping off the Highway 30 Bridge.  Clinton Police and Fire Crews arrived at the scene.  The man had been pulled from the river by a boat operator and he was taken to the hospital for treatment.

A short time later the Police received a call about woman found bleeding in the back yard of 713 4th Avenue South.

Police said at the time the two people had a domestic relationship.

The investigation revealed that the woman – Angelo Sotero-Lopez received severe cuts and stab wounds to her upper chest and throat.  Police say those injuries were inflicted by Edgar Gonzalez-Peralta, the man who jumped off the bridge.

The Clinton County Sheriff’s Department arrested Gonzalez-Peralta in Iowa City on a warrant for the Attempted Murder of Sotero-Lopez and took him into custody.

The Iowa Department of Criminal Investigations and the Division of Criminalists Laboratory assisted in the investigation.
