Overnight storms in the top 15 for 24 hour period rainfall in August

The overnight storms dumped nearly three inches of rain in the area.  Clinton area official weather observer Jim Blaess says the rain that started at about 10’clock Thursday night and ended about 9 o’clock this morning (Friday) amounted to 2.95 hundredths of an inch.

He says that is the most rain in August since 2007 when there was 4.45 inches of rain on August 22nd and 23rd.

Blaess says the rain overnight was the 15th most in a 24 hour period back to 1879.

The Clinton Area Weather Observer says the month’s rainfall is now just over four inches (4.05 inches).  The normal is 4.41 inches

For the year-to-date, Blaess the official precipitation is more than usual.  The precipitation is now 27.32 inches which compares to the eight month overall average of just of about 25 inches (24.92).
