The overnight rain exceeded the total expected for the entire month of September

The overnight rain totaled 3.66 inches according to Clinton Area Weather Observer Jim Blaess.

He says is the most in a 24 hour period in September since 1961 when there was 6.5 inches in a day.

He says the total will also be the 5th most rainfall in a 24 hour period in September since the records started in 1879.

Blaess says the rain started about 8 o’clock Wednesday morning and ended about 4:30 Thursday morning.  He says about 3 inches of the total was recorded after midnight.

The weather observer added that the 3.66 rainfall is the total for the month.  The normal precipitation this month is 2.95 inches.

For the year-to-date, Blaess says the total precipitation is now 35.55 inches compared to the normal of 27.87 inches.
