City Administrator Search Process Starts With A Question

The move to hire a search firm to help find a new City Administrator approved by the council at a meeting this week was not signed by the mayor before he went out of town on vacation.

The proposal from the firm, including having one of the executives of the firm to serve as the interim administrator, was approved by the council with a six to one vote at the meeting on Tuesday.

Mayor Mark Vulich was not in attendance at the meeting, but it was stated at the session he would stop at city hall on Wednesday to sign paperwork from the council meeting before leaving on vacation.

City officials have confirmed for KROS NEWS that the mayor did NOT sign the resolution or the agreements.

Actions can go into effect without the mayor’s signature after a period of time.

KROS NEWS has attempted to contact Mayor Vulich via email for a comment, but there has been no response yet.

City legal counsel Patrick O’Connell does not believe it is a big issue.  He says Dick Schrad-who will serve as interim city administrator is in town and proceeding with some informal meetings with the city staff.

O’Connell said he couldn’t speak for the mayor, but commented that he believes the mayor had some concerns about how quickly the process was moving and he wouldn’t get the chance for input before he returned to town.  The City Attorney says Schrad will make sure everyone has a chance for input in the initial process.

Despite the lack of the mayor’s signature, O’Connell says the firm is proceeding.  He believes the mayor will sign the papers when he returns.
