More long distance listeners hear KROS

My name is Hannu Asikainen. I am 53 years old and my education is Master of Engineering (civil engineering). I work at the City of Helsinki, City Executive Office as a Project Director of Kalasatama (=Fish Harbor) urban development project (http://en.uuttahelsinkia.fi/kalasatama). (audio is included)

I live in Espoo, about 10 miles west of Helsinki, with my wife Anu, who is 45 years old civil engineer (M’Sc). Anu works at VR Track limited as development manager.

I am writing to inform you that I had the pleasure of listening to your station on the frequency of 1340 AM on the 14th of December 2016 at 5.29 am Central standard time. You might wonder why I write to you, because you are a radio station which services a local audience. I think you might be interested in knowing that it is sometimes (when the radio/atmosphere conditions are favorable) possible to listen to your station in the other part of the world, even if the reception time can be short. I am a radio enthusiastic and I am very interested in other countries, their people, culture etc. I collect letters and cards of radio stations.

Once a year I spent a week in Lemmenjoki, the northernmost part of Finland middle of nowhere about 200 miles north of Arctic Circle. I try to pick up radio stations there especially from USA. My receiver is a communication receiver JRC NRD-535D. I had 4 long wire antennas there, each about 3000 feet long. I use to be there with my good friend and thousands of reindeers. I haven’t seen the Santa or Rudolph, but I have seen hundreds of Rudolph’s friends.

I am enclosing an audio file (mp3), which includes the recording of your station at 5.29 am. I hope that you could listen to it. I appreciate it very much; if you could send me an e-mail and confirm that that I really listened to your station. Next I give you some details about that what I heard.

5.29                   “…AM 1340 and 105.9 FM…”

My other “hobby” is traveling. I have visited 62 countries. I have been 5 times in the USA, and visited 10 states: New York, New Jersey, Maryland, D.C., Florida, California, Nevada, Arizona, Alaska and Texas. I enjoy exercise. I love to play basketball. In winter, if there is snow here in the South Finland, I really like to ski (cross-country). Once a year I go to Lapland and ski over 100 miles there during one week.

Finland is situated in Scandinavia, North Europe, between Sweden and Russia. In 2017 we celebrate the 100th anniversary of Finnish independence. So, this year is very important year in Finland.  The weather in Finland varies very much. The maximum temperature can be even 85 degrees Fahrenheit in the South Finland in summer and minimum temperature in the Northern part of Finland on winter can be even 60 degrees below 0 Fahrenheit. Typical temperature is about 74 degrees in the South Finland in summer.

Espoo, my home town, is the second biggest city in Finland. There are about 250.000 inhabitants here. Espoo is situated in the South Finland. It is the neighboring city of Helsinki, which is the capital of Finland. There are 5.500.000 people in Finland. Finland is famous for the great education system, sauna, good composers, conductors, like Susanna Mälkki and world class architects. Did you know that Finnish architect Eero Saarinen has been designed The Gateway Arch in St. Louis, Missouri and the Dulles International Airport terminal in Washington D.C? Linux Thorvalds, the creator of Linux operating system is Finn, too.

I wish you all the best and best wishes from Finland. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely Yours,

Hannu Asikainen
