Increased Scammer activity. The Fulton Police are getting a lot of calls in reference to scam attempts.

In their mobile alert program –the Fulton Department issued a warning to those signed up. Click ‘Read more’ for the message.

The Fulton Police are experiencing increased activity in scam attempts. The most common are items placed online for sale, and the scammer poses as a buyer and offers a fraudulent check. The next is the call from a “relative” that is in jail, and needs bond money wired. And the 3rd most popular is the claim of the IRS threatening to arrest people for failure to pay their taxes. The IRS does NOT make phone calls to collect past delinquent taxes. Most of these scams are from overseas, and our department can do little to combat them. Do not wire money, cash checks, or give personal information over the phone unless you are positive that you are not being scammed.
