Blue Flowers along Bluff

Local horticultural expert Margo Hansen has an answer about the flowers you may have seen along Bluff Boulevard-‘Read More for the statement
I have received several calls about the carpet of blue flowers along Bluff close to Mercy South. This plant grows from a small winter hardy bulb and is called Scilla siberica or Siberian squill. There are not many true blue flowers and in large masses the flower really catches your eye as you drive by.
Scilla is sold in the fall along with all the popular bulbs like tulips and daffodils. It is very winter hardy and is not bothered by deer or rabbits. A word of caution it can be INVASIVE so be careful. If you plant the bulbs keep then in a flower bed and do not naturalize them out in the woods. They are becoming a serious problem in Minnesota.
