17th warmest and 9th wettest April

Despite some cooler weather over the last few days of the month, Clinton Area Weather Observer Jim Blaess says the month ended warmer than normal overall.

Blaess says the overall average temperature was nearly 55 degrees (54.6) and that was nearly 3 degrees (2.7) above the normal of about 52.  He says that makes April 2017 the 17th warmest on records to 1879.

The highest temperature during the month was 80 degrees on the 15th.  Blaess reports the lowest temperature was 29 recorded on the 1st and the 7th.

Blaess says the precipitation was about 6-and-a-quarter inches (6.26) and that was the 9th highest total in an April since 1878.  From the 26th through 6 pm Sunday the precipitation was 2.3 inches as it rained each day.  Rain after 6 pm on April 30th will be recorded in May.

The normal precipitation is about three inches (3.06).

For the first four months of the year, Blaess says the precipitation is just over 12 inches (12.02) and that is more than 3.5 inches above the normal (8.37).

There was no snow recorded in April.  Blaess says the ends the snow season of October thru April with 20.5 inches of snow.  He says that is below the average of 31 inches.

The Clinton Weather Observer says in May you can expect precipitation of nearly 4 inches (3.94).  Blaess added that the average high on May 1st is 69 and the average low is 46 and those rise to averages of 78 and 56 by the end of the month.
