Weather in May was cool

May ended up cooler than usual and had about the normal amount of precipitation.

Clinton area weather observer Jim Blaess says the overall temperature was about 60 (60.1) degrees. He says that’s about two (2.5) degrees below the normal (62.5 degrees) for May.

Blaess says the highest temperature for the month was 86 degrees on the 15th and 16th and the lowest was 32 on May 3rd.

The Clinton Weather Observer reported 2.95 inches of rain in the month.  That virtually matches the normal (2.94 inches)

For the ‘year to date’ Blaess says there has been nearly 16 (15.97) inches of precipitation.  For the first five months of the year that’s about 3.5 (3.66) inches above the normal of about 12 (12.31) inches.

Meteorological spring is March-April-and-May and Blaess says that period was slightly above normal with an average temperature of about 52 (51.7) degrees.  The average for the period is just over 51 (51.2) degrees.

Precipitation during meteorological spring was about 13.5 (13.54) inches which is nearly two inches above the normal (13.54 inches)

For June, Blaess says you can expect 4.6 inches of precipitation.  The Weather Observer says the average high of June First is 78 and the average low is 56 and those rise to 85 and 64 by the end of the month.
