Warmer than usual June and 3 storms drove the rainfall total above average

The month of June started off dry – but finished with the heavy rains that put the month’s total above normal.

Clinton area weather observer Jim Blaess says the precipitation for June was 5.77 inches  . He says that’s more than an inch above the normal of 4.6 inches

Over five inches of the total came in three storms.  Blaess says 2.57 inches  of rain was recorded on June 17th and then 1.69 inches on the 23rd and another .91 of an inch on the 26th.

The 5.77 inches of rain in June 2017 matches the rainfall of June 2016.  Blaess says the last time that happened in June was 1886 and 1887.

For the year-to-date, Blaess has recorded 21.74 inches of precipitation which is above the normal of 16.91 inches through the first six months of the year.

The overall temperature, Blaess says, was 72.5 degrees and was about one degree above normal of 71.3.

The highest reading was 93 on June 13th.  Blaess says that overall there six days with 90 or above temperatures and the normal is four days.

The lowest temperature was 49 recorded on June 27th

Blaess says the average highs throughout July are 85 to 86 degrees and the average lows are 64 to 65 all month.  He added that there is typically is 3.6 inches
