The Clinton County Courthouse will reopen on Friday after a structural engineer approved of the temporary shoring of the first floor. ‘Read more’ for the official statement issued by County Officials
The Courthouse was evacuated the morning of August 3 after County maintenance crews found a collapsed support beam in the basement. A structural engineer from IIW in Dubuque recommended the building be closed until temporary supports could be installed.
Temporary supports were installed earlier this week and the structural engineer has approved the courthouse for occupancy. The structural engineer will prepare plans for permanent supports to be installed as soon as possible.
Court functions were temporarily relocated to the Clinton County Administration Building while the Courthouse was closed.
All court activity will return to the Clinton County Courthouse and will be open for regular business at 8 a.m. Friday. In order to facilitate the return to the Courthouse, all court offices will close at 3 p.m. on Thursday.
“It will be nice to return to the Courthouse,” said Clinton County Attorney Mike Wolf, “But it is good to know that our emergency action plan worked and the County Administration Building was a great alternative while the Courthouse was closed. I know I speak on behalf of the County and the courts in expressing gratitude to those we serve for their patience and understanding throughout this temporary displacement.”
