UPDATE – official statement on the incident with the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department releasing the name and update on the incident.

The name of the jail inmate who was found deceased at the Clinton County Jail on Sunday morning, August 13, 2017, is now being released.

Glasz was being held in the Clinton County Jail on 2 counts of Murder in the 1st Degree. He was arrested on June 13, 2017 in connection with the death of his parents.

“The homicide case against Gavin Glasz for the deaths of Brian and Michelle Glasz will be dismissed due to Gavin’s death,” said Clinton County Attorney Mike Wolf.

Gavin Glasz was found hanging by a bed sheet tied to the cell bars by a Clinton County correctional officer who was making his regular jail rounds. Clinton Fire Department paramedics attempted to revive Glasz but were unsuccessful.

An investigation into the death of Gavin Glasz is being conducted by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office. “There is no suspicion of foul play due to a note that was written by Gavin prior to his death,” said Clinton County Sheriff Rick Lincoln.

The cause and manner of death will be determined by the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner pending an autopsy.

 


 

 

 

On Sunday morning, August 13th, 2017 at 2:43 AM, a correctional officer from the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office Jail discovered an unresponsive male inmate. ‘Read more’ for the remainder of the officials statement from the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office issued Sunday morning

The correctional officer radioed for medical assistance and began CPR with assistance from other correctional officers.

Clinton Fire Department paramedics responded to the jail and were unable to revive the subject. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) also responded to investigate the incident along with deputies from the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office.

The Clinton County Medical Examiner’s office pronounced the subject deceased at the jail.

Other assisting agencies are the Clinton County Attorney’s Office, Clinton Police Department, the Iowa State Jail Inspector and Clinton County Communications.

The incident remains under investigation and the deceased’s name is being withheld until notification of family members.
