4th most rain in a 24 hour period in a February

The rain from Monday night thru Tuesday afternoon is now 4th on the list of most precipitation in a 24 hour period in a February in Clinton weather records to 1879.

Official weather observer Jim Blaess says the total during the period was 1.78 inches.  The most in a February 24-hour period is 2.35 in 1883.

He says for the month thru Tuesday the precipitation is now 2.92 inches and would be 11th wettest in local weather records.  The wettest February was 1869 with over five inches of precipitation.

The normal precipitation for the month is 1.63 inches.

The total includes 14.3 inches of snow.

For the year-to-date thru Tuesday the precipitation is 3.29 inches compared to the first two months normal of 3.08.
