Clinton Salvation Army Recognizes Its Volunteers

Clinton Salvation Army volunteers were recently recognized during National Salvation Army Week.    This is an opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of time critical to the success of The Salvation Army in 2017.  ‘Read more’ for the statement from the local Salvation Army.Dozens of community members are part of the team that volunteered more than 50,000 hours helping the Salvation Army to serve those in need.   Each hour of service and dollar donated is appreciated and leads to the Salvation Army mission of doing the most good.

Thiel Motors of DeWitt, Iowa was recognized for their donation of a car for the first annual Cruising with Care Giveaway.  This event took place in December and included additional donations by Hy-Vee, Lyons Filling Station, DM Services, Information Referral & Assistance Services, Porter’s Phillips 66, BP, and Visual Imaging.  Planning has begun for the second annual Cruising with Care Car Giveaway and also for Christmas in July bell-ringing on July 14 and the Red Kettle Run to kick off the holiday bell-ringing season on Saturday, November 3.  Area businesses, organizations and individuals were recognized for their hours spent ringing bells in 2017.  Hy-Vee was awarded the traveling plaque for most hours spent ringing The Salvation Army bell during the holiday season.

The bell-ringing community donations cover more than half of the Clinton Salvation Army operating budget for the whole year.

  • For Christmas assistance this year the Salvation Army served 148 families (a 50% increase from last year) with 144 kids from 66 of those families receiving toys, clothes, and toiletries from the Toy Shop/Angel Tree program.
  • 30 kids went to Summer Camp with some winning awards that will make them swell with pride for the rest of their lives!
  • In 2017, the food pantry served around 8,000 individuals with nearly 3,500 food pantry orders that fed the mouths of people right here in our community.
  • An average of 25-30 kids attend Youth Night to gather together for a hot meal and character building activities.  Young people are learning life skills through music, games, crafts, and the Bible.  There is no charge and everyone is welcome!
  • The Pathway of Hope program serves families developing goals to improve their lives. They commit to weekly meetings to monitor their progress as they change their lives one day at a time.
