New Trees in Clinton’s Parks

Branching Out Grant Helps Community Replant After Storm and Emerald Ash Borer-‘read more’ for official news released on the effort.  Volunteers are needed on Saturday.

Volunteers will plant 40 new trees throughout Clinton to offset the reduction of aging, damaged, and diseased trees. Some new trees will replace those damaged during a recent storm, as well as trees infected with emerald ash borer.

“Strong winds destroyed a couple young trees in Rainbow Park, snapping the tree trunks and causing the entire tree to topple over,” Clinton Trees Forever volunteer Amanda Eberhart said. “Both recent weather and emerald ash borer have taken a toll on the trees in our parks, but the new trees will bring new life and beauty to our community.”

The trees will be planted in five public parks: Chancy, Eagle Point, Four Square, Hawthorne and Rainbow. The local effort is a partnership through Alliant Energy and Trees Forever’s Branching Out program, focused to save energy, improve air quality and reduce storm water runoff.

Volunteers will plant on Saturday, October 13, starting at 9 a.m. at Chancy Park. President of Alliant Energy’s Iowa energy company Doug Kopp and Trees Forever staff will join Clinton Trees Forever to kick off the planting with a ceremony and tree planting demonstration. All community members are welcome to attend and join in the planting.

Clinton is one of the 34 communities receiving a grant for trees this Fall. Alliant Energy and Trees Forever granted the Clinton Trees Forever group $4,219.

This fall, Branching Out is giving more than $125,000 in grants to assist Iowa communities and groups with 34 tree-planting projects.
