Daily record broken and ties the all time record low

The low temperature for January 31st broke the record for the date and tied the record for the coldest temperature in Clinton weather records.

Clinton area official weather observer Jim Blaess says the high on Wednesday was 12 below zero and that was not the record for the lowest high.  That record, he says, is 15 below as the high on February 2nd 1996.

The low temperature for Thursday will be 29 below zero. Blaess says the record had been 22 below in in 1966.

It will be the coldest reading in a January to 1890.  The record had been minus 28 on January 25th in 1895.

The 29 below today will tie the coldest temperature in the official records.

Blaess says 29 below zero was first recorded February 3rd of 1996.
