March continued a colder than usual trend.

March 2018 finished 5.3 degrees below the normal temperature.  Clinton area weather observer Jim Blaess says the overall temperature for the month was 34 degrees and that compares to the historical average of 39.3.

He says that will not rank about the coldest on record.  Blaess says March of 1960 might the coldest with the overall temperature of 22 degrees.

The coldest day was the 4th with a 6 below reading and Blaess says the warmest was March 28th when it reached 62 degrees.

The official weather observer says the precipitation was lower than normal.  He says there was 1.82 inches of precipitation and that’s below the normal of 2.24.  Blaess says there was 1.5 inches of snow which is also below the normal of 3.1 inches.

For the first three months of the year, Blaess says the precipitation is 6.88 inches which is about the normal for the period of 5.32.

Blaess reported 46.1 inches of snow for the snow season of October thru March.  He says that will be the 14th snowiest snow season since the 1887-1888 snow season.

The normal snowfall during the period is 30.5 inches.

For this month the normal precipitation is 3.05 inches and Blaess says that includes one-half an inch of snow

Blaess says the overall average temperatures on April First include an average high of 57 and average low of 35.  He says those rise to averages of 69 and 46 by the end of the month.

Blaess also pointed out that April 2018 was the coldest April on recorded since 1881 and had the 3rd lowest precipitation total.
