Democratic Presidential Candidate Elizabeth Warren makes Campaign Stop in Clinton

Democratic presidential hopeful Senator Elizabeth Warren made a campaign stop in Clinton Friday Afternoon. The event was held at the Gateway Area Community Center Gym with around 150 attending.

She opened with a personal story about growing up in Oklahoma with three older brothers who all served in the military. When her father had a heart attack, her mother put on her best dress and went to work. At that time, a minimum wage job could support a family of three without fear of losing everything. She emphasized how government worked to help people stay or reach the middle class and not like today only for the benefit of the richest corporations.

Her three most important policy issues were fighting government corruption with one of the points being the elimination of all lobbyists, and her Ultra-Millionaire Tax proposal, which applies only to households with a net worth of $50 million or more, and a new higher-education plan that would cancel up to $50,000 in student-loan debt for up to 40 million Americans.

She took questions from the audience, one about health care and another about the VA. She said she would fight to keep the Affordable Care Act and supported Medicare for all along with fixing the problems with the VA and not privatization.

After wrapping up, Warren presented her husband Bruce with a birthday cake since they would not be together for his birthday on Saturday. She then stayed to take pictures with audience members, and then had a small gathering with the volunteers that helped set up the event.
