April 2019 makes top ten for precipitation

Last month will be in the Clinton weather records as the 10th wettest April in records to 1879.

Clinton Official Weather Observer Jim Blaess says the precipitation for the month was 6.04 inches.  He says that’s about 3 inches above the normal of 3.05 inches.  He says that total is 10th on the list for the month.

On the 29th, Blaess recorded 2.28 inches of precipitation. He says that is the most in a 24 hour period in April since April 21st 1973 with 3 inches.  Blaess says the 1973 total is the most in an April 24 hour period since 1879.

The 2.28 inches on the 29th is the 5th most in a 24 hour period in the month.

In the year-to-date, Blaess says there’s been 12.92 inches of precipitation.  He says the average for the first four months of the year is 8.37.

Blaess says the month was also cooler than normal.  The official weather observer says the overall temperature was 50.6 degrees.  Blaess says that is lower than the historical average of 51.9 degrees.

The highest temperature for the month was 81 on the 21st and the lowest was 26 on the 15th.

For May, Blaess says you can expect 3.94 inches of precipitation.  There are historically no days with 90 or above, but Blaess says last year there were 2 days with temperature in the 90’s.

The average high on May 1st is 69 and Blaess says the average low is 46.  By the end of the month those are averages of 78 and 56.
