One killed in Clinton County Crash

A Grand Mound man was killed in a two vehicle crash near the Clinton-Scott County line Sunday morning.

On Sunday morning, June 2, 2019 at 9:46, Clinton County Communications/911 received a call of a two vehicle collision at the intersection of 210th Ave and 278th St. This is located just north of Allen’s Grove Park on the Wapsi River which is the border with Scott County. Deputies from the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the scene. Upon their arrival, Deputies discovered a Donahue, IA Volunteer Fire Department engine and a green pickup had been involved in a collision.

Initial investigation of the scene indicates that the Donahue fire engine had been northbound on 210th Ave. on a non-emergency test drive. The operator of the engine was turning around to go southbound to return to the station. The engine pulled into the path of a southbound green pickup truck pulling a small trailer loaded with a lawn tractor. The front of the pickup struck the fire engine on the right rear dual tires and came to rest on 210th Ave.

The Iowa State Patrol identified the victim as the one of the people in the  pickup truck – 76 year old Roger Galloway of Grand Mound.  A second person in the vehicle – 74 year old Linda Galloway of Grand Mound was transported to the Genesis Medical Hospital in DeWitt.

The driver of the firetruck was identified as 18 year old Clayton Schoethaler of Donahue Iowa.

The Iowa State Patrol was contacted to perform a technical investigation of the collision. The Clinton County Medical Examiner was contacted due to the death of the pickup driver. Deputies were assisted by Grand Mound and Donahue Fire Departments, Scott County Sheriff’s Office.
