First October snow in over 20 years

The overnight snow totaled 1.5 inches according to Clinton Area Official Weather Observer Jim Blaess.

Blaess says that’s the first measurable snow in October since October 26, 1997 when there was 2.5 inches.

He says there must be one-tenth of an inch of snow on the ground to be considered a ‘measurable snowfall.’

Blaess says this is the eleventh time since the records to 1887 when there was a measurable snow in October.

The Clinton Area Weather Observer says most snowfall in an October was October 25th in 1898 with five inches and second on the list is 1967 with four inches of snow on the 26th.
