WWI Statue ‘Polished Up’ (pictures included)

Calling it the first phase – Clinton City Officials dedicated the refurbished World One Statue on the riverfront.

At the ceremony it was noted there will be more work in the area to honor all the veterans in the area of Fifth Avenue South and the riverfront, but this was the first step.

The statute honoring World War One Veterans was created by Leonard Crunelle around 1930.

Most people recognized that the statue had been a weather green color since shortly after it was installed.

City Administrator Matt Brooke says this statue is one part of shining up the image of the city..

Brooke said there is another – bigger ceremony planned for flag day June 14th to dedicate the refurbished and rebuilt veterans area.
