Clinton get a ‘no’ on major BUILD GRANT but a ‘yes’ on smaller GREAT PLACES GRANT

Clinton was not a recipient of a major federal grant that would have led to rebuilding Manufacturing Drive and Bluff – and City Administrator Matt Brooke says the work on the project will now start with local funding.
Brooke noted the idea for the federal program was to aid rural areas and aid roads and the tow projects funded in this cycle were a five mile street near John Deere in Dubuque and a kayaking waterway in Des Moines.
Brooke believes the Clinton project is worthy of funding and hopes a new D-O-T Director will provide more support for it.

Brooke said the city will re-submit for the grant to finish the project on Bluff Boulevard.
He did express disappointment in the process..

Adding he would like to know more..

Brooke said the project would dynamically change the city.

On the other side-Brooke did say the city received a state grant for the Great Places re-designation.
Brooke said the 248-thousand dollar grant will be used to improve the recreational trail from the 6th Avenue North or Highway 30 area to 25th Avenue North.
He said the work will update and improve the bump-out areas, improve the lighting and other improvements along the trail.

Brooke says work on the seating areas could start in 2020 but the lights may be the following year to get the Corp Of Engineers approval.
The City Administrator says they are looking at ideas for the improvements to the seating areas.
