DeWitt City Update Statement

In accordance with directives and recommendations from Governor Reynolds, the Iowa Department of Public Health, and the Center for Disease Control the City of DeWitt effective Wednesday, March 18, will close the Frances Banta Waggoner Community Library, the DeWitt Fitness Center, and the DeWitt Community Center for at least the next 4-weeks, at which time the situation will be revaluated.  During this time all related library and recreation activities and programs will be cancelled or postponed.  More details will be provided on Facebook and the respective websites.

The Library, starting Monday, March 23, will provide a curbside pick-up service.  More information regarding the curbside service will be released this week.  The Library will be staffed 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday and will answer calls and emails.  All due dates for library items will be extended 30 days and there will be no penalties for overdue items during this extended closure.

Any current reservations for the Community Center will be refunded.  Current Fitness Center contracts will be extended for 1 month.  Fitness Center staff will be available to answer calls and respond to emails 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.  All parks and trails will be maintained and open, however park restrooms will remain closed for the duration of the COVID-19 closures and Park staff will not be able to clean/sanitize park equipment so individuals should take appropriate hand washing/sanitizing measures after any use.

City Hall will remain open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.  However, it is strongly recommended that physical visits are limited; when possible make payments online, by phone, or using the drop box.  All other City services will continue as usual as much as possible, although only  essential meetings will be held (public postings and notification will continue per usual).  These measures are to ensure City employees can continue to provide emergency and essential municipal services, and to protect DeWitt citizens from the COVID-19 Virus as much as practicable.  The City strongly encourages all residents to follow the guidelines provided by the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) and Center for Disease Control.  See IDPH website for more information https://idph.iowa.gov/Emerging-Health-Issues/Novel-Coronavirus
