Clinton FD helps handle a chemical spill at local company

A haz-mat team from Davenport was called yesterday to ADM due to the spill of a chemical in the lab.

The Clinton Fire Department was called to A-D-M on a report of a small chemical spill. Crews found a small amount – about a half a liter – of Ammonium Sulfide Solution had been spilled on the floor accidentally.
Following company policy the A-D-M personnel had been evacuated before Clinton Fire Department crews arrived.
Clinton emergency crews confirmed the spill and set a safe zone. The Davenport Fire Department Haz-Mat team was called and after their assessment was complete the chemical was neutralized with an absorbent, inert material. Once the spill was declared safe the scene was turned over to A-D-M for clean-up and proper disposal.

The Clinton Fire Department called in five off duty personnel to help cover for crews who remained on the scene.
