Plumbing leak in the 140’s wing at CHS causes school cancelation

Statement from Superintendent Deb Olson on the situation at Clinton High School

The flooding was caused by a pinhole link in a piece of galvanized 3/4″ water supply pipe that serves all of CHS. Gregg Cornilsen, Plant Services Director, estimates that this leak occurred either late Sunday afternoon or early evening based on the amount of water in the hallway of the school (approximately 1/4 – 1/2″).

The water in the hallway was discovered by a custodian early this morning. With the amount of water in the hallway and in remediating this area of pipe it was determined that all of the water to the building would need to be shut down for an extended period of time. This is why the decision to not have school was made. Our plant service employees along with assistance from Domestic Plumbing were able to fix this issue. The majority of the clean-up from this repair ended at approximately 1:45 PM this afternoon. Workers still had to blow out the air from the pipes and then restart water service to the building. All of this work will be done well so that school will be able to start on time, Tuesday, October 14, 2014. Personally, I am thankful that we have so many dedicated employees who step right in to be able to resolve issues in our buildings as quickly as possible.
