Two people have died in a rural Clinton County fire.

Shortly after 8 o’clock this morning (Tuesday) there was a 9-1-1 call about a residential fire at 2210 260th Avenue   Lot 5 in DeWitt.

The Grand Mound Fire Department and the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the scene.
The first deputy on the scene observed heavy smoke coming from the single wide mobile home. Neighbors believed there were possibly two occupants still in the home. Deputies attempted to enter the home, but were unable enter due to the smoke. Preliminary investigation by the Fire Department located two individuals who were dead inside the trailer.

The Iowa State Fire Marshal and the Clinton County Medical Examiner were called to the scene. No positive identification of the victims has been made. The investigation is continuing.

The Grand Mound Fire Department and the Clinton County Sherriff’s Office were assisted by the DeWitt and Welton Fire Departments and the Genesis Ambulance of DeWitt.
