Clinton seeks to be the partner selected by area college for aid on a list of ideas

The City of Clinton is in the running to be selected by Augustana College for some help in studying a variety of issues in the community. ‘Read more’ for details and links to the city’s project list and information from the college.

The Quad City based college wants to involve some of their departments, courses, staff and students in working with one community over the school year on researching and providing other assistance.
At a recent meeting the city council approved submitting the application for the competitive program.
City Administrator Jessica Kinser says there is a donation of $15,000 – IF the city is selected. Those funds would come from an account holding fees paid for the use of the city dock many years ago and are currently not allocated.
Kinser said there a more than 15 different projects included in the city application. She said a lot of it is ‘on the ground work we haven’t been able to get to.” Kinser said they would result in “something coming back but it’s not necessarily be stamped and ready to go and move forward with” adding they would be putting some groundwork and research into concepts that are already out there. She said it would propose some ideas from a different perspective.
The college will select one community to work with and Kinser believes the Clinton application has a good chance to be selected. The Clinton City Administrator said she understood there would be less than five applicants. Kinser said the projects hit across most of the departments of the college.
Kinser said each of the 17 projects on the lists were part of the strategic plan and comprehensive plan and not new projects. She said – if the city is picked the city would still be able to decide on spending further money on any of the projects.
The city administrator said that the work could involve a couple hundred college staff and students.
An announcement of the college’s top community is expected in mid-march.
