B-rrry Scurry

Clinton Community College hosted the 34th Annual B-rrry Scurry 4-Mile Run on Saturday, February 7, 2015. Sunny skies and temperatures in the 40’s brought out nearly 700 runners and walkers on the flat and fast, out-and-back course through Clinton’s historic neighborhoods. ‘Read more’ for details in a statement from CCC

Winner of the female division was Valerie Birkmeier of Peoria in a time of 28.22. Jessica Langford of Rockford, IL holds the B-rrry Scurry record of 23:21set in 2009. Tyler Sullivan of Coralville won the male division winner in a time of 20.57. Bryan Glass of Geneseo holds the record of 20:15.

Race Director Ann Eisenman raved, “What a beautiful day for a run! This week certainly reminded us of the extreme Iowa winter weather, but today was picture perfect.“ Eisenman continued, “We appreciate Clinton Community College, our committed sponsors, more than 100 volunteers and the B-rrry Scurry Race committee that put in so many hours of their time for a memorable and safe 34th anniversary event. The City of Clinton worked hard to give us a clear race route, and chip timing provided for quick results. Thanks to everyone who participates in this great event which funds B-rrrry Scurry scholarships for CCC students.”

The B-rrry Scurry record for coldest temperature was set in 1996, when the mercury dipped to 15 degrees below zero, with wind chill at 55 degrees F below zero.

Each year the B-rrry Scurry recognizes a sponsor and volunteer who have gone above and beyond. The 2015 Sponsor of the Year has been a race supporter for the last 2 years. When the City of Clinton no longer provided barricades for community events, Brinkman Building Center provided enough lumber for 24 barricades. This year, Brinkman Building Center said yes to another dozen barricades. Congratulations to 2015 Sponsor of the Year Brinkman Building Center, for your commitment to the Clinton Community College B-rrry Scurry and to the community.

The 2015 Volunteer of the Year honorees have served to keep our runners, walkers, volunteers and spectators safe in and outside of the college, and along the race route. The Clinton County Sheriff’s Reserve is a dedicated group monitoring the halls, making the B-rrry Scurry “one of the best little races in the Midwest!” Thanks to ALL of our B-rrry Scurry volunteers, and congratulations to our 2015 Volunteers of the Year – the Clinton County Sheriff’s Reserve.

In addition to the age-group awards, B-rrry Scurry also hosts a B-rrry Challenge to all businesses and organizations. The winners are determined by the number of people the respective organization has entered in the race. Winner of the Large Group (over 150 members) award was Swiss Colony. In the Small Group Challenge (less than 150 members), the winner was the Riverfront Running Gang.

The B-rrry Scurry Committee has worked to make this race a success. Committee members include:

Todd Berner, Thalia Clement, Charlotte Darsidan, Mary Dierksen, Jody Feller, Jenny Green, Lorrie Hickey, Kris Hingstrum, James Klaes, Gail Levsen, Gean Moore, Mark Wade, Ann Eisenman.
