Tentative schedule of meetings for area governmental bodies

The Clinton School Board and Clinton City Council among the bodies scheduled to meet this week-

Monday will be the regular meeting of the Clinton School Board. As part a public presentation to the board, Les Shields will provide a short presentation explaining why the citizens of Clinton pay more for school funding and what they can do about it. Also during the meeting the board will consider approval of cooperative sharing agreements with area schools for some of the boy’s and girl’s sports. Approval of a school calendar with an August 24th start date for the next school year is proposed. The meeting is at 5:30 at the school’s Administrative Center.

The Clinton County Board has a regular session on Tuesday morning. The business session will start at 10 A-M instead of the usual 9:15. Among the items for discussion will proposals from firms to redesign the Administration Building parking lot and address the erosion issue on the northeast side of the property. Information Technology Director Betsy Smith will also update the Supervisors on the county web site.

Tuesday will be regular business meeting of the Clinton City Council. During the business agenda the council will consider the plan approved at the committee of the whole sessions to hire outside firms to seek and assess candidates for the Chief Of Position. Brian Guy retired from the post. Approving increased building permit fees and rental inspection fees is also on the agenda.
During the Committee Of The Whole session the council will hear an update report on the sewer and solid waste penalty forgiveness program the council approved. The council will also hear about the cost and scope of audit proposals.

The meeting starts at 7 o’clock Tuesday evening.


The Clinton County Justice Coordination Commission Site Selection Committee will be meeting on Tuesday to get updates on the final four sites for a potential new jail, sheriff’s office and dispatch center. The committee has reviewed over 20 sites and narrowed the list down to the top priority sites. The engineering firm of Shive-Hattery has prepared an analysis of the sites and those reports will be focus of the meeting.

The final four sites include the present law center site, the southwest corner of Mill Creek and 13th Avenue North, the area of 19th Avenue Northwest east of Springdale Drive and the Mill Creek Harts Mill Road intersection area.
The meeting will be Tuesday at the Clinton County Satellite Office in DeWitt at 6 P-M.
