A couple of new security measures are ready to be implemented at the Clinton County Administration Building. The security issue has been under study for some time and this morning the County Board approved the tentative plans that were proposed.
Building Maintenance Manager Corey Johnson said the first step with a series of ‘panic buttons’ placed around the building. He says there will be different locations where an employee can push a button and call for help. The exact locations were not revealed. The ‘buttons’ would not be in public areas and only in areas for employees
Other details of the plan were not revealed in the discussion. The response was described by County Auditor Eric Van Lancker as ‘rapid and appropriate’ but it was not revealed what agencies would respond or how they would be notified thru the system.
The cost of this system is just over $10.000
A second step would be revising some of the access to the building and card readers for employee access. Officials say this will not affect the public’s access to the Administration Building.
The cost is estimated at just over $17.000.
Combined the two systems fit into the 30-thousand dollars the Supervisors budgeted for security.
Clinton County Board Chair Brian Schmidt thanked Johnson and Clinton County Justice Coordinating Commission head Brian McKenrick for their efforts. He said there efforts help insure the safety of employee and also the visitors to the building.
McKenrick said they were still working on finalizing details of plans for improved security at the courthouse.
