Starting at 10 a.m. the Board will be updated by Kristen Huisenga from Gateway Impact Coalition on a “Clean Out Your Medicine Cabinet” event set for September 29th.

Starting at 10:30 a.m. the Board will begin a public hearing to obtain input on a construction permit application for a confinement feeding operation by Dave and Nate Denger; there could be possible action following the public hearing.

Members of the Clinton Community School Board will meet as a “Committee of the Whole” at 5:30 this evening (Monday) at the school’s Administration Center.

The Committee will take action to change the location of the “Committee of the Whole” sessions; previously had been held at Clinton High School but the recommendation is to have the “Committee of the Whole” meetings now held at the Clinton Administration Center for the remainder of the 2012-2013 school year.

John Jorgensen and the building principals will outline for the Committee the goals the district and the individual schools will focus upon during the 2012-2013 school year.

Members of the Clinton City Council will meet at 11:30 Tuesday morning in a committee of the whole focused on one issue-a new study of sewer rates. They will receive a presentation from Jenny Blankenship of PFM, Incorporated

Part of the presentation focuses on the mechanics of billing and collecting and technology the city has been using. Part of the presentation is on how to implement needed changes and suggested rate increases of 25-percent on January first, 2013 and an additional 15-percent in July of 2013. The report also notes the additional capital projects that are not implemented into the model and that funding must be considered.

Tuesday night it’s the regular session of the Clinton City Council. The council will consider the renewal of franchise agreements with Alliant Energy for gas and electric service in the city. Also on the agenda is establishing a Safety Officer position in the fire department that would serve all city departments. That is part of accepting a grant to fund a position in the department.

The Committee of the Whole session will include discussion by the council on a proposal to switch employee insurance to a plan requiring more investment by the employees.

The Clinton City Council’s City Services Committee meets on Wednesday. Among the items on the agenda include an update on the large item pickup and costs. The committee will also hear an update on solid waste pickup. City Administrator Jeffrey Horne will suggest that to find the best service available for the city that there will be a ‘managed competition’ between the city service and private haulers. In materials for the meeting he describes this as a process to establish rules for the process to be fair and compare the city costs under those rules versus private bids.

That meeting is at 1:30 Wednesday.

The Northeast School Board is meeting on Thursday at 5 pm at the Elementary School Library in a ‘retreat’ to discuss several general issues. At 6:30 the Northeast Board will meet in their regular business session.
