Election results
(Clinton area) -- The local votes will be canvassed next week by the Clinton County Board-but here are the unofficial results. Tune in at 8:20 AM for more details and results plus comments from the candidates in a special report.
Seventy-two percent of the registered voters in Clinton County voted in Tuesday’s election. There are 34,758 registered voters and 25,060 votes were counted. There could be a few more absentee ballots that would arrive in the mail with the proper postmark.
In area races:
Incumbent Democrat Mary Wolfe won re-election to a second term over a challenge from independent Carolyn Grimes with 76-percent of the vote or 10,035 votes to 3,128
Also in the other house seat in the Clinton area incumbent Republican Steven Olson won re-election over Democrat Ted Whisler of LeClaire. Unofficial results were 7,567 for Olson, a DeWitt farmer, and 5,173 for Whisler, a retired union worker at Alcoa Davenport Works. The district covers western Clinton County and part of Scott County and in Clinton County Olson received 61-percent of the votes
In the area senate race-a new district drawn from the census-Democrat Rita Hart was the winner over Republican Andrew Naeve. The district covers Clinton County and a portion of Scott County. In Clinton County Hart won 56 percent of the vote or 13,726 votes to Naeve’s 10,766. With all precincts reporting, Hart had 17,290 votes to Naeve’s 14,383, according to unofficial results.
John Staszewski won re-election to the Clinton County Board over Tom Determann with 55-percent of the vote or 13,046 votes to 10,697.
