The Clinton City Council is ready to move ahead with using the city’s Human Resource Consultant to help find a new city administrator-instead of the mayor’s proposal to form a council committee to outline the process.
During the business meeting last night the council formally accepted the resignation of Jeffrey Horne as city administrator. The council requested that resignation as Horne had been a personal leave for several weeks and also approved the payment of six months salary and health insurance required under the employment agreement. There was no discussion on either motion during the meeting with unanimous approval by the council.
During the committee of the whole session the council considered how to proceed in seeking a replacement. Mayor Mark Vulich suggested following the same procedures as previous search process in forming a committee of council members and report back to the council on a recommended processes, such as whether a search firm would be used and other steps.
But, council member Jack Rowland made a motion to have the city’s HR consultant Paul Greufe to lead the effort. The measure was approved with a 5 to 2 with Maggie Klaess and Paul Gassman the ‘no’ votes at the committee of the whole session.
Included in the process was the OK to include finding an interim city administrator to assist in the day-to-day operations during the search process.
