There will be ‘two-pronged approach’ to looking for a new operator of the Clinton Marina. At the meeting on Tuesday the city council approved cancelling the five year renewal with the current operator – Skipper Bud.
At the City Services Committee the future of the search of how to operate the marina was the topic. The committee wanted the city to issue proposals seeking a businesses operator and at the same time seeking an individual that would be a city operation of the marina.
The committee wanted to include oversight of the Riverfront Park campground as part of any proposal.
Committee member Charlie Mulholland along with Jack Rowland and Bev Herman wanted the search to include outside businesses and a proposal for a city operation. They commented that there needs to be better communication and oversight in any future plan.
City Attorney Jeff Farwell said he’s reviewed the local contract and others and has some good language he can incorporate into a new proposal.
The committee also heard from Airport Manage Mike Nass who said the airport had been under the control of a third party until he was hired nine years ago with more local oversight and control of the way the facility operates.
City Attorney Jeff Farwell said the ideal situation would be to have any new operator on board by the first of April for a transition with the current operator by the end of April and the end of the agreement.
