After three months of below normal temperatures, November ended up above average. But, Clinton area weather observer Jim Blaess says the lack of precipitation continued.
Blaess says the average overall temperature for the month was about 41 degrees and that was about one degree above average for November.
The highest reading was 70 on November 10th and the lowest was 11 on the 27th.
Precipitation for November was one inch which Blaess says is less than half of the average of nearly 2.2 inches. He says there were only two days with measurable precipitation and that was .2 of an inch on the 6th and .8 of an inch on November 11th.
For the year-to-date precipitation, Blaess says there has been about 21.9 inches and that is about 10.5 inches below the normal for the first eleven months.
Blaess says 2012 is on track to be the second driest year on record. The driest was 1988 with about 19.6 inches and the third driest is 1910 with just under 23 inches.
For this month, Blaess says you can expect about 1.9 inches of precipitation and that includes eight inches of snow on average.
The average high on December first is 40 and low is 24 and by the end of the month those have dropped to 29 and 13. There are typically three days of zero or below temperatures in December.
The month has started off warm with a high of 58 on Saturday and 59 on Sunday and by late morning today it was above 60. The record high for December 3rd is 68 set in 1970.
Blaess says 70 degrees has been recorded in December only one time and that was December 4th of 1998 with 70 for the high.
