Overnight precipitation was all rain according to Clinton area weather observer Jim Blaess. He said that overnight until about 11 AM this morning the total was just over nine-tenths of an inch of precipitation. He says there was a trace of snow, but that was quickly washed away as the precipitation changed back to rain.
Blaess says the general rule is that one-tenth of an inch of rain equals about one inch snow and that meant the overnight precipitation would have been about nine inches of snow if it has all be snow.
Today will be the end of the ‘no snow’ days with the heavy snow starting at about 11 AM. Blaess says it takes one-tenth of an inch to be considered as a measurable snow.
That will make this year the third longest period of ‘no snow’ in the Clinton area with 292 days of no snow. The last measurable snow was March 3rd .
Blaess says the longest period is 1987 with 307 days with no snow from January 30th to December 2nd.
Second on the list is 1976 with 302 days from January 27th to November 23rd with now snow.
This year just passed 1948 for the days with no snow as there were 290 days that
