Fulton police charged 19 year old Deandre Rashard Anthony with one count of felony eluding along with numerous other traffic charges. Clinton police said Anthony is also facing numerous Iowa charges when Whiteside County authorities complete their case.
According to Clinton Police Sgt. Steven Kopp, officers were in the area of the 500 block of 25th Avenue when a vehicle, a 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora that police had identified in an assault, was located.
The vehicle was occupied by three people, including Anthony as the alleged driver. Kopp said when the occupants of the car saw police, they driver of the Aurora fled the area at a high rate of speed. The car crossed the Iowa 136 bridge leading into Whiteside County, Ill., and entered Fulton at a high rate of speed, police said.
According to Fulton Police - officers laid down stop sticks, but the driver swerved to miss them. Fulton officers and Whiteside County Sheriff’s Department deputies then joined the pursuit. Pridemore said the Aurora was swerving in and out of traffic. The Aurora then turned onto U.S. 30 and continued at a high rate of speed before turning onto Acker Road in Whiteside County.
Kopp said the Aurora experienced engine trouble and stalled at the intersection of Highway 30 and Tucker Road. One of the vehicle’s occupants was captured at the stalled car, while the driver and the front seat passenger fled on foot before being apprehended.
Anthony was taken to the Whiteside County Jail. There is no record of charges against the passengers in the car. No one was injured, and no vehicles were damaged.
Anthony has numerous traffic convictions on his record in Clinton County, including a conviction of driving while his license was suspended in June 2011.
