While just beginning a budget review with Clinton City Council was updated the property tax levy for the next budget year will be slightly higher than the current levy.
Finance Director Jessica Kinser went through some of the early parts of the budget dealing with debt service, capital projects and special revenue and that included levies for benefits and similar portions of the budget. In the end, Kinser said the levy is driven by benefits and debt.
The levy for operations is maxed at the eight dollars and ten cents plus the 27 cents emergency levy. It is the other part of the levy that brings the total to about 16 dollars and 99 cents per thousand dollar valuation.
Kinser said the council will be faced with some decisions to balance the budget with what will be proposed. She said things are tight, adding that we are coming to you with a deficit. Kinser said the department heads have worked to eliminate what they can, but that additional cuts are needed and that means personel.
Kinser said those discussions will be part of the general fund presentation at a future budget meeting.
The next budget meeting will be Monday-January 28th at 3 pm with other meetings on January 30th at 3 pm February 6th at 10 AM February 11th at 3 pm and February 18th at 3 pm. Each meeting covers specific areas of the budget.
